I vowed never to have chickens again after growing up on a family farm.
Well, now that GrandDaughters have entered our life and eating food that we didn't personally raise has renewed our interest in fresh eggs. With the help of friends 'with chickens', remembering some of my long lost husbandry knowledge, plus a handy husband, we are enjoying our young chickems. To start with We have 2 x Golden Sexlinks, 2 x Black Australorps, 2 x Easter Eggers. Each girl truly has her own personality.
We will consider a rooster as time goes by; our girls will be in the yard during the day, cooped at night and as I recall, the rooster keeps a good watch on 'his' ladies and warns them of danger.
We look forward to learning more and more about chickens and all that we can do for them as they do all they can for us. The Grands are interested in learning how to show chickens and are considering joining 4H ! !
Our Pembroke Welsh Corgi keeps himself busy with the chickens too .. they all enjoy 'nesting' together which keeps us all grinning.
